Houghton : Hot Forging Agent 7171
Hot Forging Agent™ 7171 is an oil graphitic lubricant formulated for use on difficult ferrous and non-ferrous forgings. The product contains a synthetic suspending agent that shows excellent wetting characteristics. Hot Forging Agent 7171 provides the extra high temperature lubricity that increases production and tool life. In use, the product flows smoothly under heat, providing excellent metal flow and more accurate forgings. The synthetic suspending agent holds the graphite in a supporting matrix, providing an insulating barrier to reduce heat transfer from work to die. This ensures the same percentage of graphite is applied, producing a thermosetting reaction without building up objectionably during the forging process. The die is preserved and lubricated so that it will last longer and enable better, more accurate forgings.
