Caltex-Texaco : Taro Special HT 55/50

Taro® Special HT 55 is a 55 BN SAE 50 cylinder lubricant optimized to lubricate slow-speed cross-head engines using reduced sulphur fuel (<2% to max 3.5 wt% sulphur as stipulated by Marpol Annex VI Agreement ) and operating at very high mechanical and thermal loads. Taro® Special HT 55 is blended from highly-refined, paraffinic base oils and carefully selected additives to provide ring and liner wear protection and piston cleanliness in slow-speed crosshead engines. Taro® Special HT 55 has been developed for high pressure and high temperature applications..

Taro® Special HT 55 is recommended for lubricating the cylinders of all crosshead-type marine diesel engines using lower sulphur fuel (2% to max 3.5% sulphur) and operating at high specific power outputs and high thermal loads. Running on lower sulphur fuel requires the reduction of base introduced into the cylinder. This can be achieved by optimizing the oil feed rate or selecting a diesel cylinder lubricant that has been specially optimized to a lower base number.
